Me!

Sports Journalist & Web Developer from New York City

Hi, my name is Jacob Baker, and I’m a sports journalist and web developer based in New York City, USA. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had two passions that shaped my life — boxing and technology. It might sound like an odd combination at first, but for me, they go hand in hand: the discipline, clarity, and rhythm of coding match the intensity, structure, and drama of a fight in the ring.

A Passion Born in the Ring

My love for boxing began early. I remember staying up late to watch HBO Boxing broadcasts with my father. The iconic voices of Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley would fill our living room as warriors clashed in the squared circle. It wasn’t just the punches — it was the drama of the moment, the mental chess being played between two determined opponents. That emotional tension of being one-on-one, exposed and tested, stayed with me.

Later in life, I even joined a local boxing gym. I wanted to feel it all — the sweat, the exhaustion, the camaraderie, and the grind. Sparring and training helped me better understand the sport from the inside. Boxing is more than entertainment — it’s a test of character.

Turning to Technology

While boxing filled my soul, web development challenged my mind. I started learning HTML and CSS, driven by curiosity. That turned into a passion — I went on to study JavaScript, explore PHP, and dive deep into Laravel, one of the most elegant PHP frameworks out there.

When building websites, I focus on:

  • Clean, responsive layouts
  • Mobile-first design using Bootstrap
  • Sharp, readable typography with FontAwesome
  • Dynamic content tables using Tablesaw
  • Lightweight performance and SEO-ready structure

To me, a website should be simple, fast, and useful. I always think like a user first.

Bringing It All Together

My love for boxing and web development naturally came together. As someone who often visited BoxRec to explore boxing records and histories, I realized that the site, while rich in data, lacked modern usability. I saw an opportunity: create something that boxing fans like me would love to use on any device.

That’s when I created Champinon.info — a boxing-focused platform that:

  • Shows infographics on fighter stats
  • Highlights current world champions
  • Blends text, images, and video for a better reading experience
  • Loads fast and looks great on smartphones

I built the site to help fans quickly find facts, rankings, and visuals without digging through clutter.

What’s Next: The Schedule

Fans kept asking me: “Where can I see who’s fighting next weekend?” That’s how Boxing-Schedule.com was born. It’s a simple, up-to-date calendar of major boxing events. You’ll find:

  • Fight dates and times
  • Locations and venues
  • Links to the broadcasting or streaming platforms

It’s a site made for fans who want to plan their weekend — whether they're in the U.S., the U.K., or anywhere else the sweet science is loved.

What Drives Me

I’m not just a developer. I’m a fan. I sweat in the gym, I code at night, and I care deeply about how stories are told — both in the ring and online. Whether I’m writing a fight preview, building a data dashboard, or improving UI/UX for fellow sports lovers, I’m always pushing to create something honest, fast, and useful.
